Pen-demic

 I’ve been whispering to you  As to not disturb your streaming and clicking and daydreaming  But this year I decided to shout  The warm wind is here  The ice brilliance is here  The bird symphony is here  The lilac scent is here  Always been that way  Why have you dismissed these?  Like channels that don’t catch your fancy  At one time there wasn’t an unseen creature with a crown  That could turn the world upside down  But now, so much to observe and feel  Being apart from others, but closer  To our true selves  Scary to witness suffering, longing, fearing  Find the perfect scene with a grasp to heal  What is strangling our souls and keeping us engulfed  In the big hurt  Open the door, breathe, see, listen  Our world, always changing, is injected with  More hues, more sounds, more energy  And you are in the midst of perfection  Do I have your attention now? On the calendar there won’t be an end date No bright, festive day to celebrate Instead, a slow pull out of the darkness We stumble and fumble out of this mess No one person or group is to blame Many voices spoke and opined, but often sounded the same It seems looking back, there was too little preparation At many times, too much misinformation You ask, what will our life be like on the other side? Can we trust the politicians or scientists to be our guide? I know the reassurance that you seek Is that life will flip back to a pre-pandemic week This I cannot tell you. The nation’s response to the Coronavirus has us all rethinking what our lives are about. Do we have to go to gyms to exercise? Can I stay in touch with friends without being near them? Can there ever be too much toilet paper and frozen pizza in the house? Can I get the same uplifting message from online church? Will life go back to what it was before the Coronavirus was in America? Not likely. Any event that is as far reaching to all aspects of our lives will change us. But we go forward just like those before us did in uncertain times. Our spiritual lives have changed, how we worship and congregate. There may be a plus side to our virtual church. There are people that may be searching for deeper meaning in their lives. The world in crazy mode has that effect. But, those same people might be reluctant to go inside a building filled with strangers who may or may not look like them.
